Insight

When you're in a long race, there are always going to be highs and lows.
Moments when you feel amazing. Like you could go forever.
And moments when you're questioning why you signed up in the first place and wondering if you can take another step.

One of my mantras during long races is: Go when you can go. Slow when you gotta go slow. Just keep moving.

It's a reminder that progress is still progress, even when it's not pretty and it seems like you’re barely getting anywhere.

During the Grindstone 100, I remember a stretch where all I could do was shuffle down the trail. I felt terrible… like words can’t express how bad I felt- I couldn't imagine moving any faster. And then later in the race, at around mile 70, I snapped out of it and started running fast miles again.

But whether I was shuffling or running hard…I was still moving forward.

And I think the same thing is true in life. Sometimes you're making huge progress- everything is clicking and you're full of energy and momentum. Other times it feels like you're hanging on for dear life.

That’s just the way it goes, it’s all part of the process. Not every moment is going to be full speed ahead.

But you keep showing up. You keep doing what you can to move forward. And you trust that if you just keep moving, the energy and momentum will come back.

Go when you can go.
Slow when you gotta go slow.
Just keep moving.
