Insight

I recently heard someone telling stories about their athletic glory days, with the heavy implication that their best days were in the past.

I just don’t believe that.
The idea that all of your best physical and athletic memories, experiences, and accomplishments have to live in the past.

Sure, of course, aging changes what your body can do.
But I think people are way too quick to decide they can’t still improve. Still chase big goals. Still train hard and smart. Still create new memories, new experiences, and discover new things their bodies are capable of.

I’m 40 years old, I’m learning to mountain bike and having a blast doing it.
Last year I learned how to swim and did an Ironman.
In my 30s I played women’s professional tackle football, won 3 national championships, and even scored a touchdown on ESPN2.
In my late 20s I took up ultra running and completed a 100 mile race.

But what if I had decided after college hockey that my “best years” were over?
I would have missed so many incredible experiences, friendships, challenges, and memories..

Instead of always looking backward- what if we looked forward?

What if we chose a goal that excited us? Trained for it. Signed up for a race Learned a new skill. Watched a bunch of YoutTube videos and learned everything we could. Went all in on a new endeavor.

Who says your best athletic memories have already happened?
Maybe the best is still ahead of you.

So what’s next for you?

Question

What if your best memories and experiences are still ahead of you?
