Insight

October is one of my favorite times of the year. There's nothing quite like fall in New England. The changing leaves, the crisp air, watching one season turn into another- amazing.

I was driving home today and was literally overwhelmed by how beautiful everything looked.

And it got me thinking about change. People LOVE watching the leaves change colors every fall. But when it comes to change in our own lives? NOPE- not so much.

I remember when I owned my gym, I decided to move where we stored the barbells. Nothing crazy. Just moved them to a different spot. And it was without a doubt, UNQUESTIONABLY a better location. It made more sense, the space worked better, and it was an improvement for everyone.

But people were NOT happy.

Why? Because people don’t like change. We’re creatures of habit. We like routines. We like knowing what to expect. Even when something is without a doub better, we can resist it simply because it's different. But we have to realize…Different doesn't automatically mean worse. Sometimes different is BETTER. And sometimes the change we're resisting is exactly what we need to grow.

We can't expect to grow if we're unwilling to change.

Sometimes that means trying something new, taking on a challenge, changing how we do things, or letting go of something familiar to make room for something better.

And sometimes change happens whether we want it to or not. Not every change is easy. Not every change is something we would have chosen. But that doesn't mean there can't be something good on the other side of it.

So whether you're considering making a change or you're already in the middle of one, maybe it's worth asking yourself: Am I resisting this because it's actually a bad thing? Or just because it's different?

Look for the beauty in change.
You never know what it might make possible.

Question

What is something you're afraid of changing in your life right now, and is it possible that making that change could actually lead to growth?
