Insight
I didn’t really feel like biking or running long this weekend.
And yet yesterday I rode my gravel bike for three hours on the powerlines, and today I ran (slowly) for three hours on those same powerlines.
Was I motivated? Hell no.
I’m signed up for a big gravel bike race and long trail race in a few weeks.
So the work needs to get done.
I think this can be one of the big secrets to staying consistent: sign up for something.
A race, a competition, a hike, a fitness challenge. Just put a date on the calendar.
Once you’ve committed, it becomes a lot harder to talk yourself out of doing the work.
And it’s fun. It’s fun to commit to something, show up even when you’re not feeling it, and show up on race day knowing you did the work.
So maybe you don’t need more motivation- maybe you just need something to train for.
And if you’re looking for an excuse to commit to something… The Relentless Run & Ruck Challenge is on October 24th. Choose a 5k, 10k, or as many 5k loops as possible in six hours. Run it or ruck it.
Sure, this is a shameless plug- but it may also be just what you’re looking for.
If you’re on the fence, reach out! I’d love to help you choose a distance and get you to the start line to join in on the fun :)
Question
What could you sign up for that would get you excited to train again?
