Insight
This weekend I went to the APEX Boston competition to cheer on some of my friends. It consisted of seven events: a 40-yard sprint, max distance medball toss, max vert, max broad jump, as many deadlifts as possible in 1 minute (405/275), AMRAP bench (225/115), and finishing with a timed mile.
IT WAS AWESOME. The energy was electric all day. And you know what? PEOPLE WERE FEEDING OFF OF IT.
One of my friends is an elite-level sprinter and absolutely crushed the speed and power events. But in training, despite her best efforts, she'd never been able to deadlift 275 pounds or bench 115 pounds.
But on game day? People are screaming… music is blasting…energy through the roof.
She crushed the sprint and power events as expected.
But then… she PR'd her deadlift. Then she PR'd her bench.
And then she went out and ran a 5:36 mile to set a new APEX record.
And she wasn't the only one. People were hitting PRs and exceeding their own expectations all day. It felt like if you could bottle up that energy, you could do anything.
So it got me thinking… How do we bring more of that energy into our everyday lives?
We probably can't recreate hundreds of people screaming our names every time we're trying to do something hard. But we CAN bring that energy to the people around us.
We can hype people up.
We can believe in them.
We can remind them what they're capable of when maybe they've forgotten or don’t realize it themselves.
And we can surround ourselves with people who do the same for us.
Energy is contagious. So bring the good kind.
Hype people up. Believe that you and the people around you are capable of more.
And have some damn fun while you're doing it.
Question
What kind of energy are you bringing to the people around you?
