Insight
It feels like every time I open the app formerly known as Twitter (X), every post is about how AI is going to take over. Everyone’s going to lose their job. Mass chaos. The world as we know it is over.
Maybe some of that is true. Who knows? There’s a lot of uncertainty right now. And AI is absolutely going to shake things up and change how we work and interact. It would be naive to think otherwise.
But you know what it’s never going to replace?
Connection.
Real, genuine, human interaction.
And I think people are craving that now more than ever.
Just this week I saw it everywhere.
A small village store packed on a Saturday afternoon - people shoulder to shoulder, laughing, talking, listening to a live band. A group of 20+ women learning how to play Mahjong. A trailhead parking lot overflowing with people meeting up to ride, hike, walk their dogs. Friends sitting at restaurants, catching up, actually enjoying each other’s company.
People connecting. In real life- not on a screen and not staring at their phones.
Not obsessing about the doom and gloom that is broadcast 24/7 on every news channel.
Just being present. Laughing. Enjoying their lives. Actually having fun.
It’s easy to focus on the negative and that so much feels like it’s out of our control. To look at the world and feel like we don’t have much impact.
But we can and do have an impact- within our own circles.
We can choose to seek out connection.
And even more than that, we can create it.
Because the reality is, most of us are busy. If we don’t make it happen, it doesn’t just magically happen on its own.
So be the one who organizes a game night. Schedule a weekly (or daily!) walk with your neighbors or coworkers. Plan a weekend trip with people you care about. Invite people in.
Connection doesn’t require perfect timing or a big event- but sometimes it does require intention.
There’s a lot in this world we can’t control. But we can always make our lives, and the lives of the people around us, better by creating opportunities to come together.
Because connection is everything.
Question
