Insight
You can’t screw around with Mother Nature. She doesn’t care about your plans.
We’re coming off a historic storm here in New England - tons of snow, 70+ mph winds, trees down everywhere.
It was wild. And it was a reminder that no matter how organized or disciplined we are, we’re not always in control.
It was a tough week for a lot of people.
Kids home from school for TWO WEEKS. (yikes)
Power out for days. Cold houses. Nowhere to go.
I was lucky not to lose power (shocking but true), but it still threw everything off. I took a few days off from training. I mostly stayed home. My routine disappeared. Things slowed way down.
At first, it felt like I was regressing. Like I was falling behind in literally every area of my life.
But after a few days, I realized something- the forced slowdown came with some gifts.
Extra time with people I love.
Reading a book I’d meant to read for months.
Space to think clearly about big goals.
Fresh air, laughs, and a little family workout shoveling together.
And then, just a few days after the storm, the sun came out. Temperatures in the 40s felt incredible…like so, so good. And after a little struggle to get back into routine…I got back moving again.
So, for me, some things Mother Nature reminded me this week:
Sometimes life forces you to slow down so you can reset, refocus and (hopefully) come back stronger.
You can’t control everything. Sure, control what you can- but don’t fool yourself into thinking you control it all.
Keep things in perspective. Being without power sucks. Being cold sucks. But the sun will come back again.
It’s ok to be lazy sometimes. Not everything needs to be productive or optimized. Sometimes I just feel guilty for sitting around… and this week I was reminded that there’s nothing wrong with just letting yourself slow down and regroup.
Even the worst storms pass eventually.
It’s been a long winter… but we’re getting through it. And we’re coming out stronger.
Question
What has this past week forced you to pause and reflect on?
