Insight
There’s something so special about Marathon Monday in Boston. An entire city shows up to support people doing something hard. 30,000 people running 26.2 miles. Half a million people lining the streets from Hopkinton to Boston - cheering for friends, cheering for strangers.
Cheering for the elites flying through in just over two hours. Screaming for the qualifiers who worked for years to get there. Encouraging the middle of the pack. And maybe my favorite- cheering the loudest for the ones who are just trying to keep moving.
The energy is everywhere. It. Is. Electric.
The Scream Tunnel in Wellesley - absolute chaos in the best way. College kids screaming at the top of their lungs. And you can actually see it hit the runners. They find another gear.
Then that final turn onto Boylston Street. The noise, crowd, finish line- there’s nothing like it.
People crossing that finish completely spent - but also proud, emotional, fired up by everything around them.
As much as I respect the runners out there, another thing stands out to me- the impact of those people on the sidelines who didn’t run the race.
Their energy matters a lot that day.
And that’s not just a Marathon Monday thing. That’s everyday life- the energy you bring matters.
The way you show up, talk to people, and support someone when they’re in the middle of something hard.
You don’t have to be the one “running the race” to make an impact. Sometimes just being there - bringing good energy, encouraging someone, showing up, cheering like a maniac - can be exactly what someone needs to keep going.
So be that person- the one who shows up. The one encourages. The one who brings THE ENERGY.
You never really know how much it might help someone take their next step and keep running their race.
Question
What kind of energy are you bringing into key areas of your life? How can you show up with better energy for the people around you?
